2008 Subaru Outback 3.0L Petrol · VN08 XRY

The vehicle remains roadworthy but the maintenance history reveals a persistent trend of deferred attention toward wear and tear. While the most recent test in October 2025 at 166,613 miles passed with only advisories related to tyres and lens clarity, the preceding years show a consistent pattern of deteriorating suspension and exhaust components. The record suggests a reactive maintenance strategy where parts are replaced only after reaching a point of failure or advisory status rather than through proactive preventative care. The mileage accumulation is consistent with an eighteen-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 9,250 miles per year. Between December 2020 at 133,366 miles and October 2025 at 166,613 miles, the car covered over 33,000 miles, indicating steady and regular usage. There are no significant gaps in the testing interval to suggest long periods of neglect, though the mileage places considerable strain on the complex drivetrain and suspension assemblies typical of a Subaru of this era. A buyer must conduct a thorough inspection of the exhaust system, as the tester flagged a minor leak and corroded flanges in every annual test from 2020 through 2023. This recurring issue indicates the structural integrity of the system is degrading. The suspension also shows a history of wear, with anti-roll bar pins, bushes, and lower control arm bushes repeatedly flagged across multiple years. The buyer should check for excessive play in these linkages and audible noises during a test drive to ensure the previously noted faults have been properly addressed. The braking system requires close scrutiny given the 2021 report of thin pads, pitted discs, and fluctuating service brakes across all axles. The recurring advisory for offside rear tyres worn to the legal limit across four consecutive tests suggests a lack of attention to basic consumable alignment and replacement schedules. Furthermore, the presence of undercovers obscuring components in 2021 and 2022 may have prevented visual inspections of structural corrosion on the chassis or subframes, which is a critical risk for a vehicle of this age and mileage.
