2000 Volkswagen Golf 1.9L Diesel · W954 CCK

The vehicle shows a consistent history of wear-related failures, suggesting that maintenance is often reactive rather than proactive. The most recent MOT recorded in October 2021 at 240,527 miles passed despite a non-excessive oil leak, pitted rear brake discs, and an offside front tyre nearing the legal limit. Since it is now August 2026, this record is over five years out of date, creating a significant data gap regarding the current state of critical components like the braking system and structural integrity after an estimated 30,000 miles of travel. At 240,527 miles over 26 years, the Golf averages approximately 9,250 miles per year, which is typical for its age. However, the inspection history reveals recurring issues with consumables and minor mechanical wear components. Between 2019 and 2021, the tester repeatedly flagged tyres worn to the legal limit or perishing, indicating a pattern of neglecting routine upkeep. The presence of an oil leak in both 2019 and 2021 suggests a long-standing issue that has not been addressed, though it did not cause a failure. The history highlights specific vulnerabilities in the suspension and braking systems. In 2017 and 2018, the vehicle failed due to parking brake efficiency issues, missing CV boots, and excessive play in lower suspension arm bushes. The 2019 test also identified a corroded brake pipe, which required cleaning and greasing rather than replacement. While these issues were rectified to pass tests, the recurring nature of suspension play and brake failures suggests the chassis and components are experiencing significant degradation. Given the high mileage and the time elapsed since the last recorded test, a thorough physical inspection of the corrosion, brake line integrity, and the condition of the timing belt is mandatory before any purchase.
