2016 Vauxhall Mokka 1.6L Petrol · WF16 AAZ

The most recent MOT test conducted on 08 October 2025 resulted in a pass, though it introduced advisories regarding the condition of the rear tyres. Looking at the broader maintenance trend, the vehicle has demonstrated a consistent and stable history with no recorded defects between 2022 and 2024. The emergence of tyre advisories in the latest inspection suggests that while the vehicle is mechanically sound in terms of major components, it is now entering a phase where age-related degradation of consumables is becoming evident. With a recorded mileage of 36,918 miles over approximately ten years, the vehicle has averaged roughly 3,692 miles per year. This is exceptionally low for a vehicle of this age and type. While this low mileage implies reduced wear on the engine, drivetrain, and suspension assemblies, it also indicates a usage pattern that may involve long periods of inactivity. Such a profile can be beneficial for mechanical longevity but often introduces specific risks associated with components that are not regularly exercised or subjected to varying thermal cycles. The primary concern highlighted by the latest MOT is the advisory for cracking and perishing on both the nearside and offside rear tyres. This is a clear indication of age-related rubber degradation, often referred to as dry rot, which occurs when the chemical composition of the tyre breaks down over time regardless of tread depth. During your inspection, examine the sidewalls closely for any deep fissures or cracking. On your test drive, pay attention to any unusual vibrations or road noise, though the most significant risk is a potential loss of structural integrity in the tyre carcass. You should budget for the immediate replacement of these tyres to ensure roadworthiness. Given the low annual mileage, you must conduct a thorough physical inspection for issues related to vehicles that have stood for extended periods. Check the brake discs for heavy corrosion or pitting and listen for any binding or dragging of the calipers during the test drive, as infrequent use can cause brake components to seize. It is essential to verify that the service history includes time-based fluid changes, as engine oil, brake fluid, and coolant degrade chemically over time even if mileage remains low. Additionally, inspect the 12V battery for signs of age and check all rubber components, such as suspension bushes and coolant hoses, for signs of perishing or cracking, as these items are susceptible to environmental degradation when not regularly used.
