2005 Toyota Alphard 2.4L Petrol · WH55 JYZ

The 2005 Toyota Alphard presents a mixed maintenance picture. The most recent MOT, conducted on 29 September 2025 at 165,412 miles, passed but flagged worn nearside and offside rear suspension arm pins or bushes, along with a nearside rear inner tyre worn close to the legal limit. Comparing this to the clean pass recorded on 30 September 2022 at 94,153 miles, the trend is clearly worsening. The vehicle has accumulated advisories and minor failures at a steady rate, indicating that while the car remains roadworthy, basic suspension and tyre upkeep has been reactive rather than preventative. The recurrence of inner tyre wear on the rear axle across multiple tests suggests alignment or suspension geometry issues have gone unaddressed. The mileage progression tells a consistent story. Between September 2022 and October 2023, the car covered roughly 27,374 miles in just over a year, a sharp increase from the prior period. From October 2023 to October 2024, it added another 22,545 miles, and then from October 2024 to September 2025, it recorded 21,340 miles. This equates to an annualised rate well above the 7,877-mile average implied by the vehicle's age, pointing to sustained high-mileage use. The MOT record is relatively complete with no significant gaps, giving confidence that the mileage figures are genuine and that the vehicle has been in regular use rather than sitting idle. A buyer should pay close attention to the rear suspension components. The September 2025 advisory for worn rear suspension arm pins or bushes on both sides, combined with the October 2024 advisory for a severely deteriorated offside front suspension arm ball joint dust cover, indicates that rubber suspension components are deteriorating under the stress of high mileage. Worn bushes can cause vague steering, uneven tyre wear, and compromised handling, particularly at motorway speeds. The inner edge wear pattern on rear tyres appearing in both 2024 and 2025 tests reinforces the likelihood of a rear alignment or suspension geometry fault that has not been corrected. The braking system also warrants inspection. The October 2024 test flagged thin rear outer brake pads and thin front inner pads, suggesting uneven pad wear that could point to binding calipers or seized sliding mechanisms. Combined with the recurring tyre wear issues, a thorough check of the braking and suspension systems is essential before purchase. The headlamp aim and lens defects noted in 2023 and 2024 are minor but indicate the car has not received meticulous cosmetic attention. Overall, the Alphard appears mechanically sound enough to pass its MOTs, but the pattern of recurring advisories suggests deferred maintenance that a buyer should budget to address.
