2012 Hyundai I20 1.2L Petrol · WM12 VFF

The most recent MOT inspection on 08 October 2025 resulted in a pass with no recorded defects, indicating a clean bill of health at the time of testing. Looking at the broader maintenance trend, the vehicle demonstrates a stable and improving history. Although a failure was recorded in late October 2023, the subsequent two annual inspections have been completed without any advisories or defects. This suggests that any mechanical issues identified during that failure were promptly addressed, and the vehicle has maintained a consistent standard of roadworthiness over the last few years. The recorded mileage of 41,519 miles is exceptionally low for a vehicle of this age, averaging approximately 2,966 miles per year. While low mileage generally implies less mechanical wear on the engine, transmission, and suspension components, it also suggests the vehicle may have experienced long periods of inactivity or has primarily been used for very short journeys. This specific usage profile requires a different inspection approach than a high-mileage vehicle, as the primary concerns shift from mechanical wear to the degradation of components caused by age and lack of movement. During your physical inspection and test drive, you should pay close attention to components that suffer from time-based degradation. Examine the tyres thoroughly for signs of perishing or sidewall cracking, as rubber can harden and crack from age even if the tread depth remains high. Check the brake discs for surface corrosion or pitting, and during the test drive, listen for any binding calipers or feel for any shuddering under braking, which can occur when a car has stood for extended periods. It is also advisable to verify the service history to ensure that fluids such as engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid have been changed according to a calendar-based schedule rather than just mileage intervals, as these fluids degrade over time regardless of distance driven. Furthermore, inspect the condition of the rubber suspension bushes and engine mounts, as these can perish and crack due to environmental exposure and age, potentially leading to knocks or vibrations. Given the low annual mileage, the health of the 12V battery should be verified, as infrequent driving can lead to incomplete charging cycles and reduced battery lifespan. Finally, ensure that the vehicle's service book contains regular stamps to confirm that maintenance has been performed to prevent the buildup of sludge in the engine or moisture in the fuel system, both of which are common risks for vehicles with this specific usage pattern.
