2005 Land Rover Defender 2.5L Diesel · WU55 GFZ

This Land Rover Defender has maintained an exceptionally clean MOT history over the past five tests, with the most recent October 2025 inspection at 105,316 miles showing no defects or advisories. The trend is stable, with consistent annual passes and no signs of recurring mechanical issues or deferred repairs. The absence of even minor advisories—such as worn tyres, suspension wear, or fluid leaks—suggests either meticulous maintenance by previous owners or, more likely, very light usage. For a vehicle of this age and mileage, this level of MOT compliance is unusual and raises questions about whether the car has been stored rather than actively driven. The mileage progression confirms this suspicion: between October 2021 and October 2025, the Defender covered just 2,971 miles—an average of around 594 miles per year. This is well below the typical annual usage for a vehicle of this type, particularly given its off-road capability. The near-stagnant mileage from 102,345 miles in 2021 to 104,231 miles in 2024 (a mere 1,886 miles over three years) strongly implies prolonged periods of inactivity. Such low mileage reduces wear on critical components like brakes, suspension, and drivetrain, but it also means fluids may have degraded over time, and rubber seals—such as those in the cooling system or differentials—could have dried out or cracked. Given the lack of recorded issues, a buyer should still inspect the vehicle’s underlying condition in person. Focus on the suspension components, particularly the bushings and coil springs, which may have hardened or degraded despite low mileage. Check for binding in the brakes, as prolonged inactivity can cause corrosion on discs and pads, leading to uneven wear or seizing. The exhaust system should be examined for rust, especially around the silencer and mountings, given the Defender’s age and potential exposure to moisture. Finally, verify all fluid levels—engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid—as stagnant vehicles are prone to contamination or seal failure. While the MOT history is flawless, the Defender’s near-zero mileage accumulation suggests it may not have been driven regularly. This could mask latent issues that only emerge after restarting use. A thorough pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic, with particular attention to suspension integrity, brake condition, and fluid health, is strongly advised before committing to the purchase.
