2008 Vauxhall Combo 1.7L Diesel · WV58 VPA

A consistently clean MOT record, with five consecutive tests showing no recorded defects, is the dominant narrative for this 2008 Vauxhall Combo, the only irregularity being an unexplained failure logged on the same day as a pass in September 2025. The absence of any advisory or failure items across the six‑year span indicates that, at least at the times of inspection, the principal safety‑critical systems – brakes, suspension, lighting, and emissions – were deemed compliant with DVSA standards. The odometer reading of 98,238 mi translates to an average of roughly 5,460 mi per year, well below the typical usage rate for a vehicle of this age. Such low annual accumulation may point to periods of limited operation or extended storage, which can sometimes conceal wear on rubber components or lead to moisture ingress in sealed systems. However, the steady mileage progression between tests shows no sudden spikes that would suggest a recent surge in wear‑inducing activity. When you conduct a test drive, pay particular attention to the front and rear suspension bushes for any clunking or excessive play over bumps, as prolonged low‑usage can allow bushings to dry out. Evaluate the braking feel for a firm, even pedal response without pulsation, and listen for any squeal that could indicate worn pads or glazed discs. Observe the steering for any pull to one side or vibration at higher speeds, which would hint at wheel bearing or alignment issues that may not have manifested during the MOT checks. A comprehensive pre‑purchase inspection should include a visual examination of the chassis for hidden corrosion, especially around wheel arches and under‑body panels, and a check of the exhaust system for cracks or leaks that could affect emissions compliance. Verify that all exterior lights, indicators, and the horn function correctly, and confirm that tyre tread depth meets legal limits and shows even wear. Confirm that the vehicle’s service records, if available, align with the low mileage and that any fluid levels are topped up, as these are the practical steps to ensure the car’s roadworthiness beyond what the MOT history alone can guarantee.
