2011 Renault Grand Modus 1.1L Petrol · WV61 GWN

The vehicle remains roadworthy but the maintenance history reveals a persistent trend of deferred minor repairs and deteriorating suspension components. The most recent test in September 2024 at 43,381 miles flagged multiple issues including an imbalance in the front brakes, corroding front shocks, and split shock protectors. These faults follow a pattern established in the 2023 test, where front shock corrosion and high handbrake travel were already noted, suggesting that the suspension assembly is entering a stage of decline despite the vehicle passing the test. The mileage profile is exceptionally low for a 15-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 2,900 miles per year. This low usage is evident in the gap between 2023 and 2024, where the car covered only 1,944 miles. While low mileage often implies less mechanical wear on the engine and drivetrain, the record points to age-related degradation. For example, the 2022 test identified nine-year-old tyres with cracking and uneven wear, indicating that the rubber has perished due to time despite having remaining tread depth. A physical inspection must focus on the structural integrity of the front crossmember and subframe, which were flagged as heavily corroded in 2020 and received a strong advisory in 2017. Rust on these load-bearing components is a critical concern that can lead to structural failure. The buyer should also verify the front brake system to address the reported imbalance and inspect the front shock absorbers for signs of leaking or deep-seated corrosion. The recurring mentions of smearing wipers and failing bulbs across a decade suggest that basic maintenance has not been a priority for previous owners.
