2000 Volkswagen Golf 1.8L Petrol · X734 BCS

The vehicle presents a stable roadworthiness status, having achieved two clean passes in its most recent annual MOT tests. The most recent inspection in July 2024 at 166,383 miles recorded no defects, suggesting that the significant mechanical issues identified in previous years have been addressed. This represents a marked improvement from the period between 2018 and 2021, where the vehicle suffered from multiple failures related to steering geometry, brake components, and underbody corrosion. At 166,383 miles over 26 years, the Golf averages approximately 6,400 miles per year, which is consistent with a low-use vehicle of this age. However, there is a notable gap in data between November 2015 and 2018, during which the car covered only 490 miles in three years. This period of low usage likely explains the age-related degradation of components seen later in the record, such as the perished tyres and perished rubber dust covers noted in the 2019 tests, despite the low overall mileage. A buyer must conduct a thorough inspection of the structural integrity, as the 2021 test flagged corrosion on the vehicle structure that did not yet reduce rigidity. While the car has passed since, the history of corroded rear brake pipes and deteriorated exhaust brackets suggests the underbody is prone to advanced rust. The steering rack should also be monitored for any residual fluid seepage or wear, as this component was flagged for leaks and defects in both the May 2021 and June 2021 tests.
