2014 Ford Kuga 2.0L Diesel · XS53 OPH

The 2014 Ford Kuga has maintained a consistent MOT pass record across four consecutive tests, with the most recent inspection on 3 May 2025 at 40,124 miles yielding no defects or advisories. This suggests the vehicle has avoided major mechanical failures or structural issues during its service life, though the absence of recorded faults does not preclude hidden wear—particularly in components like suspension bushes, coil springs, or brake calipers, which are not always flagged in routine MOTs. The tester’s silence on emissions, corrosion, or binding brakes implies either diligent servicing or deferred maintenance, but no clear trend of worsening conditions is evident. Buyers should treat this as a baseline of stability rather than a guarantee of flawless condition. The recorded mileage of 40,124 miles over 12 years—roughly 3,344 miles annually—indicates unusually light usage for a vehicle of this age, with no gaps exceeding the standard 12-month MOT cycle. The mileage increments between tests (e.g., 3,169 miles between 2024 and 2025) are steady and predictable, suggesting the car has not been subjected to aggressive driving or prolonged neglect. While low mileage generally correlates with reduced wear on high-stress parts, it may also reflect extended periods of inactivity, potentially accelerating issues like tyre degradation or suspension corrosion. The lack of advisories in any test further supports that no urgent repairs were deferred, but buyers should verify whether the vehicle has been stored properly to mitigate moisture-related deterioration. Given the clean MOT history, priority should be given to inspecting suspension components—particularly the rear McPherson struts and associated bushes—for dry rot or excessive play, as these are common failure points in Kugas of this era. The brake system, while never flagged, warrants scrutiny for uneven disc wear or binding calipers, especially if the vehicle has been stationary for extended periods. Corrosion checks are critical: examine wheel arches, sills, and subframe areas for hidden pitting, as low mileage does not preclude rust progression in wet conditions. Finally, the battery and fluid levels (coolant, brake fluid, differential oil) should be verified, as these are often overlooked in lightly used but aged vehicles. The absence of MOT advisories does not absolve the need for a thorough pre-purchase inspection.
