Recurring issues with suspension components and drivetrain seals define the mechanical history of this vehicle, which shows a pattern of progressive wear in its lower chassis and steering assemblies. The most recent test on 19 April 2024 resulted in a pass, following a failure for non-functioning nearside and offside stop lamps. While the recent record shows fewer mechanical defects than in previous years, the history includes a major failure for a nearside front shock absorber fluid leak in 2021 and several years of advisories regarding worn suspension bushes, ball joints, and deteriorating constant velocity boots. The vehicle has covered 192,965 miles over its 24-year lifespan, averaging approximately 8,040 miles per year. This annual accumulation is consistent with typical long-term usage for a vehicle of this age. Mechanically, this level of steady mileage suggests that while the vehicle has not been subject to extreme high-speed or heavy-load usage, the components have been subjected to consistent, long-term cycles of wear. The cumulative mileage is particularly relevant to the recorded history of suspension and drivetrain component degradation, as these parts are subject to fatigue over hundreds of thousands of revolutions and road impacts. A prospective buyer should pay close attention to the condition of the front suspension and drivetrain during a test drive. The MOT history repeatedly flags issues with the nearside front lower suspension arm ball joint, track rod ends, and constant velocity (CV) boots. On the road, listen for rhythmic clicking sounds when turning the steering wheel at low speeds, which may indicate CV joint wear, or knocking and clunking noises when driving over uneven surfaces or speed bumps, which would point to worn suspension bushes or ball joints. The history also notes a minor exhaust gas leak in 2021, so listen for any increased engine note or raspiness that could indicate further exhaust system deterioration. Braking and visibility components also require scrutiny. Although the 2024 test passed, previous records highlighted worn, pitted, or scored brake discs and thin brake pads across all wheels, alongside a noted increase in parking brake lever travel. During a test drive, check for any pedal judder or pulsation when braking, which can signal warped or unevenly worn discs, and ensure the handbrake holds the vehicle firmly on an incline. Additionally, the 2024 advisory regarding deteriorated headlamp lenses suggests that light output may be compromised; verify that the illumination is clear and sufficient for night driving to ensure the lenses do not require restoration or replacement.
