2004 Mercedes-Benz C 1.8L Petrol · YD54 VWM

The vehicle demonstrates stable roadworthiness, with the most recent 2025-09-25 MOT at 118,838 miles recording no defects. Previous tests from 2024-09-27 (116,851 miles) and 2023-10-04 (114,696 miles) also passed without issues. However, a 2024-09-24 test at 116,832 miles recorded a failure with no defects listed, raising questions about administrative accuracy or transient faults. The absence of recurring mechanical issues in the last three years suggests consistent maintenance, though the failed test warrants scrutiny. The vehicle’s mileage of 118,838 miles over 22 years equates to approximately 5,402 miles annually, significantly below average for its age. This low usage could indicate infrequent operation or prolonged storage, which may affect components like the battery, tyres, and engine seals. The 2024-09-24 failure occurred just three days after a passing test, suggesting potential inconsistency in testing or minor, unresolved issues. The MOT history shows no major structural or mechanical defects, but the sparse data from 2022-2023 and the abrupt 2024-09-24 failure limit definitive conclusions. A buyer should prioritise inspecting the suspension system for aged bushes or coil springs, as low mileage can mask wear in static conditions. Brake components, including calipers and discs, should be checked for corrosion or binding, given the vehicle’s age. Structural integrity remains unconfirmed, as no rust or damage was noted in the MOT records, but visual examination is critical. The lack of recurring faults implies responsible upkeep, yet the low mileage and isolated failure highlight the need for a thorough pre-purchase inspection to verify mechanical soundness.
