2022 Volkswagen Multivan Life Phev S-A 1.4L Hybrid electric (clean) · YF22 AAZ

The most recent MOT inspection conducted in July 2026 resulted in a pass, though it identified several minor defects concerning visibility and external trim. Specifically, the nearside front, offside front, and rear windscreen wiper blades were noted as defective, alongside a slightly damaged offside front obligatory mirror. While these are classified as minor, they indicate that the vehicle's external consumables are beginning to show their age. Compared to the clean MOT record from June 2025, the maintenance trend appears stable, suggesting that while the vehicle is mechanically sound, it is entering a phase where routine replacement of wear-and-tear components is necessary to maintain optimal visibility and compliance. The recorded mileage of 40,019 miles for a four-year-old vehicle represents an annual average of approximately 10,000 miles, which is entirely consistent with typical UK private or light commercial usage. This moderate mileage profile is advantageous for a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, as it suggests the vehicle has been driven frequently enough to prevent the degradation often associated with long periods of inactivity, such as battery discharge or fluid stagnation. The lack of rapid mileage accumulation implies that the drivetrain, suspension, and braking systems should not be excessively worn, though the vehicle has certainly covered enough distance to require adherence to a strict manufacturer service schedule. Given the relatively clean history, the inspection should focus on age-related degradation and the specific requirements of a PHEV. You should closely examine the tyres for any signs of perishing or sidewall cracking, which can occur even if tread depth remains high. Because hybrid vehicles often utilise regenerative braking, the friction brakes, including discs and calipers, may experience uneven wear or surface corrosion from under-utilisation; listen for any squealing or feel for any brake shudder during deceleration. It is also important to check for any binding calipers which can occur if the vehicle is frequently driven in electric-only mode. It is vital to verify the service history for time-based maintenance, such as brake fluid replacement and engine coolant changes, which are critical regardless of mileage. On your test drive, pay close attention to the suspension for any clunks or knocks over uneven surfaces, which could indicate worn bushes or failing coil springs, and ensure the transition between electric and petrol power is seamless without any unusual vibrations or engine hesitations. Finally, verify that the service book contains stamps consistent with the recorded mileage to ensure the vehicle has not missed any critical interval-based maintenance.
