2004 Audi A6 1.9L Diesel · YT04 YBY

A consistent record of clean MOT results over the last several years defines this vehicle's recent roadworthiness profile. Following a single minor defect regarding a deteriorated nearside front drive shaft constant velocity boot in July 2020, the car has achieved three consecutive passes without any recorded defects, including the most recent successful test on 4 March 2023. This trend suggests that the mechanical components inspected during the MOT process have remained within acceptable regulatory limits for the past three years, with no recurring issues flagged for brakes, emissions, or structural integrity in the latest inspections. The vehicle has covered 181,806 miles over its 22-year lifespan, representing an average annual accumulation of approximately 8,264 miles. This usage pattern is consistent with typical long-term mileage for a vehicle of this age. From a mechanical perspective, this steady rate of use implies that while components such as suspension bushes, coil springs, and drivetrain mounts are subject to standard age-related wear, the vehicle has not been subjected to the extreme high-mileage stress of heavy motorway transit, nor has it likely suffered the degradation associated with prolonged periods of inactivity. Given the specific advisory recorded in 2020 concerning the nearside front drive shaft constant velocity boot, a prospective buyer should pay close attention to the front-end drivetrain during a test drive. Listen for any rhythmic clicking or popping noises when turning the steering wheel under load, which can indicate that the CV joint has suffered damage or grease loss following the previous boot deterioration. Additionally, check for any excessive vibration through the steering wheel or floorpan during acceleration, which may signal issues with the drive shafts or inner joints. While the recent MOT history is free of advisories, the age and mileage of the vehicle necessitate a physical inspection of common wear items not always captured by a standard MOT. During the test drive, listen for knocks or clunks from the suspension when traversing uneven surfaces, which could indicate worn bushings or dampers. It is also advisable to monitor the brake pedal feel for any sponginess or pulsation under braking, and to observe the engine bay for any signs of oil misting or weeping from gaskets, which are common on high-mileage engines of this era.
