2006 Citroen C1 1.0L Petrol · YT55 BNL

This Citroën C1 has a concerning and incomplete MOT history, with the most recent test occurring over three years ago on 12 July 2022 at exactly 101,710 miles. The vehicle failed that test, yet no specific defects were recorded in the official DVSA database, which raises immediate questions about the nature of the failure and whether it was rectified properly. Without subsequent MOTs to confirm repairs or ongoing issues, there is no evidence of a stable or improving maintenance trend. The absence of any further tests—despite the car’s age and mileage—suggests either a prolonged period off the road or a lack of compliance with legal requirements, both of which are red flags for structural integrity and mechanical reliability. The recorded mileage of 101,710 miles over approximately 20 years equates to an unusually low average of around 5,086 miles per year, which may indicate limited use or extended periods of inactivity. However, this pattern is not supported by any MOT data beyond the single 2022 failure, leaving critical gaps in understanding how the vehicle has been maintained—or neglected—since then. The lack of recent testing means there is no confirmation that the car has passed subsequent inspections, nor is there any evidence of regular servicing to address wear on components like suspension bushes, coil springs, or brake calipers, which are typically critical concerns for a vehicle of this age and mileage. Given the sparse MOT record, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of the suspension system, particularly the rear axle, where binding brakes were likely the cause of the 2022 failure. The absence of further tests also warrants scrutiny of structural corrosion, especially around wheel arches, sills, and the subframe, as these areas are prone to deterioration in a vehicle of this vintage. The brakes should be thoroughly checked for uneven wear, warped discs, or seized calipers, while the exhaust system should be examined for leaks or excessive rust, which could indicate prior neglect. The tyres, though not recorded in the MOT, should be assessed for uneven tread wear or signs of age-related degradation, as the car’s low mileage does not necessarily correlate with proper tyre maintenance.
