2003 MINI 1.6L Petrol · YY03 AEV

The most recent MOT test on 2023-04-20 at 131,044 miles confirms the vehicle remains roadworthy without any recorded defects, maintaining a stable trend over the last two tests. The absence of advisories or failings in either the 2022 or 2023 tests suggests no recurring mechanical issues have been overlooked. However, the 2023 test is now approaching three years old, which exceeds the standard 12-month interval. While the vehicle passed, this delay introduces an increased risk of undetected wear—particularly in suspension components, brake systems, and exhaust emissions—given the vehicle’s age and mileage. The recorded mileage of 131,044 miles over 23 years equates to approximately 5,700 miles annually, a figure significantly lower than average for a vehicle of this age. The gap between tests—13,750 miles between April 2022 and April 2023—indicates either light usage or prolonged periods of inactivity. Such low mileage could mitigate some wear, but it also raises concerns about fluid degradation (brakes, power steering, coolant) and potential corrosion from standing water or lack of regular movement. The sparse MOT history makes it difficult to assess long-term maintenance discipline, but the lack of failings suggests no obvious neglect. Given the vehicle’s age and the last MOT’s age, a buyer should prioritise an immediate inspection of critical high-wear areas. The suspension—particularly coil springs, bushes, and dampers—should be checked for uneven wear or leaks, as these components degrade predictably over time. Brake systems warrant scrutiny: binding calipers, uneven disc wear, or corrosion on rotors could indicate past issues not caught in the MOT. Structural integrity, especially around wheel arches and sills, must be examined for corrosion, as prolonged inactivity can accelerate rust. Finally, the exhaust system should be inspected for leaks or excessive rust, as emissions-related failings are common in older vehicles with irregular servicing.
