2012 MINI (R57) 2.0L Diesel · YY12 OAU

The vehicle remains roadworthy, but the maintenance trend shows a shift toward reactive rather than preventative care. The most recent test in November 2024 at 140,257 miles flagged a nearside front tyre reaching the legal limit with uneven edge wear. This follows a pattern of deferred maintenance seen in previous years, particularly regarding braking components and rubber-work, suggesting that the owner only addresses mechanical issues once they approach the point of MOT failure. The mileage accumulation is consistent with typical usage for a fourteen-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 10,000 miles annually. There was a significant jump of over 21,000 miles between November 2022 and November 2023, followed by another 20,000 miles in the following year. While this steady usage indicates the car is driven regularly, the high-mileage figure of 140,000 miles places considerable stress on the aging components of the R57 chassis, specifically the drivetrain and suspension bushings. A buyer must prioritise inspecting the front braking system, as the 2023 test noted both scored discs and thin pads. Given the uneven tyre wear noted in 2024, a physical check of the front alignment and control arm bushes is essential to rule out geometry issues. The history also highlights recurring perishing across multiple tyres in 2022, indicating that rubber components may be failing due to age regardless of tread. Inspect the windscreen for further cracks, as multiple chips have been recorded over the last three years.
