2016 DAF XF 460 FTG 12.9L Heavy oil · YY66 AFV

Extremely high annual mileage defines the operational profile of this DAF XF 460 FTG, which has covered over one million miles within a ten-year period. Despite this intensive usage, the recorded MOT history shows a consistent pattern of passing tests, with the most recent inspection on 26 February 2026 resulting in a pass with no defects recorded. While the recent trend shows a return to a clean certificate, the history is punctuated by a specific advisory regarding brake component corrosion on axle 2 in April 2024, indicating that while the vehicle remains compliant, certain wear items have required monitoring. The recorded mileage of 1,063,104 miles represents an average annual accumulation of approximately 106,310 miles. Such a high rate of use places significant cumulative stress on the drivetrain, chassis, and all major wear components. Mechanically, this level of mileage suggests that components such as the turbocharger, fuel injectors, and gearbox have been subjected to constant high-load cycles, and the suspension system has endured substantial fatigue. The continuity of the MOT record suggests the vehicle has been in near-constant operation rather than sitting idle, which typically helps prevent certain types of environmental degradation but accelerates the mechanical wear of moving parts. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the braking system, specifically regarding the corrosion noted on the axle 2 discs during the 2024 test. Although the 2026 test showed no defects, the previous advisory for corroded discs, pads, and calipers warrants a physical inspection. During a test drive, listen for any grinding or squealing noises during deceleration and feel for any pulsations or judder through the pedal, which could indicate uneven disc surfaces or sticking calipers. It is also necessary to check for any uneven pulling to one side when braking, which might suggest a binding caliper or uneven friction material wear on the axle 2 assembly. Given the million-mile milestone, a thorough inspection of the structural integrity and suspension linkages is essential. While no specific suspension defects were flagged in the recent records, the sheer volume of mileage means that bushes, air bellows, and shock absorbers are likely near the end of their service life. On the road, pay close attention to any knocking or clunking sounds when traversing uneven surfaces or turning the steering, as these are common symptoms of worn suspension components. Additionally, monitor the exhaust system and engine bay for any signs of oil misting or exhaust leaks, as high-mileage heavy goods vehicles often exhibit increased seal wear and thermal stress.
