2017 Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0L Diesel · YY67 LHX

The Volkswagen Tiguan’s most recent MOT test on 2025-10-07 confirms it remains roadworthy at 30,965 miles, with no defects or advisories recorded across the past three consecutive tests. This consistency suggests the vehicle has avoided major mechanical failures or structural issues during its low-mileage service life. However, the duplicate entry for 2023—where the car was tested twice on the same date—indicates a potential administrative oversight rather than a technical concern, as both records show a pass with no faults. The absence of recurring advisories or defects implies that previous owners adhered to basic maintenance, though the lack of service history beyond MOTs means critical intervals (e.g., timing belt, suspension bushes) cannot be verified. The recorded mileage of 3,441 miles annually over nine years is unusually low for a vehicle of this age, averaging just under 300 miles per month. This pattern could reflect light private use, short-term storage, or even mileage tampering, though the latter is less likely given the steady progression between tests. Notably, there is a 15-month gap between the 2022 and 2023 tests, during which the car accumulated 5,127 miles—significantly higher than the subsequent annual averages. While this spike doesn’t necessarily indicate neglect, it warrants scrutiny of components like brakes, suspension, and drivetrain, which may have experienced accelerated wear during that period. Given the clean MOT record, the primary focus for an in-person inspection should centre on high-wear items that aren’t routinely checked by MOT testers. The suspension—particularly rear bushes and coil springs—should be examined for excessive play or corrosion, as these are common failure points in low-mileage vehicles left standing for prolonged periods. Binding or unevenly worn brake calipers or discs, especially if the 2023 mileage spike occurred before the last test, could suggest past neglect. Structural integrity is another concern; inspect the wheel arches, sills, and subframe for corrosion, as standing water or road salt exposure can compromise these areas even at low mileages. Finally, verify the condition of the exhaust system for leaks or rust, as emissions-related faults are often overlooked until they become severe. The absence of advisories doesn’t preclude these issues, so a thorough mechanical assessment is essential.
