2004 Audi A3 2.0L Diesel · CK54 ABX

This vehicle presents a deceptively clean MOT record that requires careful interpretation. The most recent test, a failure on 28 February 2022 at 172,681 miles, recorded no defects, which is an anomaly. This likely indicates a data entry error or a test aborted before completion, rather than a genuine mechanical pass. The preceding four tests, from February 2019 to February 2021, all passed with no advisories or defects. The overall maintenance trend appears stable on paper, but the gap in history since early 2022 is a significant concern. The car has not been tested in over four years, and its current roadworthiness is entirely unverified. The mileage pattern is consistent with typical annual use for a vehicle of this age. The car covered roughly 7,500 miles per year between 2019 and 2022, with no sudden jumps or periods of standing. The recorded 172,681 miles aligns with the 22-year age of the Audi A3. The two failures in 2019 and 2022 are not linked to any specific component failure, as no defects were listed. This lack of detail is frustrating, but the absence of recurring advisories on suspension, brakes, or structural corrosion suggests the car was maintained to a reasonable standard during the tested period. A buyer must treat this car as a project requiring a full pre-purchase inspection. The four-year testing gap means every critical system is unproven. Pay particular attention to the rear brake calipers and discs, as binding is a common issue on this generation of A3. Inspect the front suspension lower arm bushes and rear axle bushes for splits or play, as these degrade with age and mileage. Check for corrosion on the rear subframe, sills, and floorpan, especially around the jacking points. The exhaust system should be examined for leaks or corrosion, and the engine should be cold-started to check for smoke or rattles from the timing chain. Without a current MOT, this car is an unknown quantity, and its value depends entirely on what a thorough inspection reveals.
