1989 Harley Davidson XLH1200 1.2L Petrol · F836 PUR

This Harley-Davidson XLH1200 has maintained a clean MOT history with no defects recorded across the most recent three tests, all of which were passed. The last test occurred on 2025-07-25, meaning the vehicle has been on the road for approximately 13 months without undergoing an MOT—well within the 12-month window before the next due date. The absence of advisories or failings in any of the three most recent tests suggests the vehicle has not experienced any recurring or critical mechanical issues during this period. However, the extended gap since the last test means no recent professional assessment of wear items like brakes, tyres, or suspension has taken place. The recorded mileage of 32,292 miles over approximately 37 years equates to an average of around 873 miles per year, which is unusually low for a motorcycle of this age. This suggests the bike has either been stored for prolonged periods or used very lightly. There are no MOT records between 2022 and 2023, a gap of 18 months, which could indicate either a lack of regular use or a delay in testing. While low mileage generally reduces wear on mechanical components, it also means critical items like chain tension, throttle response, and electrical systems may not have been thoroughly checked in years. The lack of mileage progression between tests also raises questions about whether the bike was even ridden during those periods. Given the sparse MOT history and the age of the vehicle, a buyer should prioritise an immediate, thorough inspection of high-wear components that are not covered by MOT testing. The suspension—particularly the rear shocks and front forks—should be checked for leaks, excessive play, or worn bushes, as these are not routinely tested and can degrade silently over time. The braking system, including calipers, pads, and hydraulic lines, warrants close examination, as binding or uneven wear could develop without MOT detection. Electrical systems, such as the ignition, lighting, and meter functions, should be tested, as these are often overlooked in low-mileage bikes but can fail catastrophically. Finally, structural integrity—especially around the frame, fuel tank, and exhaust—must be inspected for corrosion or fatigue cracks, as these are not MOT-tested and can compromise safety. Given the extended periods without testing, a pre-purchase inspection by a specialist motorcycle mechanic is strongly advised.
