2001 BMW 525 2.5L Petrol · A6 CMD

This vehicle presents a consistent track record of roadworthiness, having achieved consecutive passes without recorded defects across the last eight annual inspections. The most recent test on 29 August 2026 confirms this trend of passing with no failures or advisories, mirroring the clean results seen in every recorded test dating back to 2019. This lack of recorded defects across multiple years suggests that the components subject to MOT scrutiny, such as braking systems, lighting, and emissions, have remained within legal tolerances throughout this period. The recorded mileage of 131,860 miles for a 2001 model indicates a relatively low annual usage pattern of approximately 5,274 miles per year. While this lower accumulation reduces the frequency of wear on high-friction consumables like brake pads and tyres, it also means the vehicle has been subjected to fewer heat cycles and less frequent mechanical movement compared to a higher-mileage equivalent. For a vehicle of this age, such a usage profile requires careful inspection of rubber-based components, such as suspension bushes, engine mounts, and various seals, which can perish or harden due to age and environmental exposure even when not subjected to heavy mechanical load. Given the absence of specific advisories in the DVSA history, there are no documented issues regarding structural corrosion, brake pipe degradation, or suspension linkage wear to alert a buyer. However, because the MOT record does not include a detailed mechanical inspection of fluid condition or seal integrity, a test drive should focus on identifying any signs of age-related degradation that may not yet have triggered a failure. Listen for any dull knocks or clunks when traversing uneven surfaces, which could indicate worn suspension bushings or ball joints, and check for any steering pull or vibration through the steering wheel that might suggest uneven tyre wear or worn steering rack components. Further attention should be paid to the engine bay and underbody for any signs of oil misting or weeping from gaskets, as low-mileage vehicles can sometimes experience seal contraction. During the test drive, monitor the brake pedal for any sponginess or unusual vibration under deceleration, which would indicate issues with the hydraulic system or disc condition. While the official records show no failures, the age of the vehicle necessitates a physical verification of the condition of all flexible hoses and drive belts to ensure they have not become brittle or cracked from long-term exposure.
