2013 Toyota RAV4 2.2L Diesel · AM12 TJM

The most recent MOT inspection on 14 March 2026 resulted in a pass with no recorded defects. Evaluating the overall maintenance trend, the vehicle appears to be in a stable condition. While the 2023 and 2024 records contained advisories regarding tyre perishing and worn lower suspension arm bushes, the clean passes in 2025 and 2026 suggest that these items have been addressed or have reached a level of compliance that satisfies current standards. This indicates a positive trajectory in the vehicle's recent mechanical upkeep. The recorded mileage of 74,221 miles over 13 years equates to approximately 5,709 miles per year, which is notably low for this vehicle type. While this low usage suggests less wear on the engine and drivetrain components, it also implies the vehicle may have been subject to long periods of standing. In such cases, mechanical issues often stem from age-related degradation of consumables rather than high-mileage wear. You should be mindful that components like rubber seals, hoses, and suspension elements can perish due to time and environmental exposure even if the vehicle has not been driven extensively. When conducting a test drive, pay particular attention to the front end of the vehicle. Despite the recent clean MOTs, the previous advisories for the nearside and offside front lower suspension arm bushes mean you should listen for any knocking or clunking sounds when traversing bumps or uneven surfaces. Such noises, or a feeling of looseness in the steering, could indicate that the bushes are beginning to deteriorate again. Furthermore, inspect the tyres for any signs of sidewall cracking or perishing, as noted in the 2023 advisory. Even if the tread depth appears sufficient, age-related dry rot can compromise the structural integrity of the tyre. Because the vehicle has been driven infrequently, you should also check for signs of standing-related issues. Inspect the brake discs for heavy corrosion or pitting and check if the calipers are binding, which can cause uneven braking or a pulling sensation. It is also vital to confirm that the service history includes regular oil changes based on time intervals, as fluids can degrade over several years regardless of mileage. Finally, check the 12V battery health and look for any evidence of fluid leaks from engine or gearbox seals that may have dried out or become brittle due to the low frequency of engine heat cycles.
