2004 Renault Megane 1.6L Petrol · AM53 JKY

The vehicle presents a questionable roadworthiness profile based on a history of reactive rather than proactive maintenance. While the most recent recorded test in December 2021 at 277,128 miles passed with no defects, this data is now over four years out of date. Given the age and high mileage, the lack of a recent certification is a significant concern regarding the current mechanical state. The historical trend shows a pattern where faults are only addressed immediately following an MOT failure. The mileage pattern is exceptionally high for a 22-year-old Renault, averaging approximately 12,600 miles per year. The data shows a stagnation in usage during the final recorded years; between November 2019 and December 2021, the vehicle covered only 5,652 miles, suggesting a significant drop in use or a period of storage prior to the final recorded test. This high-mileage history indicates a vehicle subjected to heavy use, which typically accelerates the degradation of suspension components, drivetrain bushings, and braking hardware. A buyer must prioritise an inspection of the braking system, as records show recurring issues with thin pads and pitted or scored discs across 2019 and 2020. The tester flagged a corroded nearside rear brake pipe in 2020, which is a structural risk that requires physical inspection to ensure it has not thinned further. Furthermore, the repeated failure of the parking brake in 2019 and the persistent supplementary restraint system warning lamp suggest that electrical and mechanical safety systems have been neglected by previous owners. The structural integrity of the chassis and mounting points should also be checked for rust, as high-mileage vehicles of this era often suffer from hidden corrosion that is not always captured in a standard MOT advisory.
