2020 Ford Transit Connect 1.5L Diesel · AM70 OWL

A 2020 Ford Transit Connect showing 77,503 miles across three consecutive MOT passes is a clean mechanical record from a roadworthiness perspective. The most recent test on 29 November 2025 produced a pass with no defects or advisories recorded, and this follows identical clean passes on 11 December 2024 and 16 December 2023. This pattern of three successive advisories-free outcomes is the strongest indicator of present condition that DVSA records can provide, with no brake, suspension, exhaust, or corrosion defects flagged in any of the documented tests. The absence of advisory notes across the entire record is notable for a commercial-derived vehicle of this age, particularly as light commercial platforms tend to accumulate wear-related advisories on components such as suspension bushes and brake components earlier than passenger equivalents. The recorded mileage of 77,503 miles over six years equates to approximately 12,917 miles annually, which sits well above the average accumulation rate for a vehicle of this age and is consistent with genuine commercial or fleet use. The MOT history aligns consistently with this usage profile, with annual tests recorded in late 2023, late 2024, and late 2025, and no gaps suggesting periods off the road or prolonged standing. Higher annual mileages on a Transit Connect translate directly into greater wear on the mechanical consumables that the MOT does not directly assess, particularly the clutch, dual-mass flywheel, turbocharger (on the diesel variant), and the rear suspension leaf spring bushes and shock absorbers. Brake discs and pads, along with the steering rack and track rod ends, will also have experienced substantially more thermal and mechanical cycling than on a lower-mileage equivalent, even though the recorded tests have not flagged any of these items. Given the mileage profile and the commercial vehicle origins, the priority on a physical inspection should be the drivetrain and clutch operation. On a test drive, listen for any rattle on cold start which could suggest wear in the dual-mass flywheel, and check for clutch slip under load in fourth and fifth gears, or judder when pulling away from rest in first and second. The steering should be checked for any slack, knocking, or uneven self-centering, particularly over uneven road surfaces where worn track rod ends or front suspension bushes can be detected through vibration transmitted to the steering wheel. Pay particular attention to any pulling to one side under braking or a soft or spongy pedal feel, which could indicate uneven brake disc wear or caliper slide-pin binding given the higher accumulated mileage. The rear suspension on the Transit Connect is particularly vulnerable to wear on high-mileage examples, so the vehicle should be examined from behind for any sagging indicating weakened leaf springs, and rocked laterally at the rear to detect worn bush play in the trailing arms. Beneath the vehicle, look for any oil misting around the engine sump and the turbocharger area if the diesel engine is fitted, as well as any signs of corrosion on the underside, particularly around the rear axle mounting points, jacking points, and brake pipe runs. The tyres should be inspected for even wear across the tread, as uneven shoulder wear can point to suspension geometry issues, and the wheel bearings should be checked by jacking each corner and spinning the wheel to listen for any roughness. Finally, verify that all warning lamps extinguish promptly on startup, that the infotainment and instrument cluster functions are fully operational, and that the service book or digital service record corroborates the mileage shown and confirms scheduled maintenance has been carried out at the appropriate intervals for a commercial-use vehicle.
