2004 Skoda Octavia 1.9L Diesel · AX04 GWZ

The Skoda Octavia’s most recent MOT test on 17 February 2024—conducted at 149,453 miles—confirms the vehicle passed without any defects, a trend that has persisted across the last three consecutive tests in February 2023 (137,821 miles), January 2022 (120,767 miles), and January 2021 (103,612 miles). This suggests a stable maintenance history with no recurring advisories or failures, though the absence of defects does not preclude underlying wear. The final test occurred just over 27 months ago, which, while within the legal MOT validity period, means critical components like brakes, suspension, and exhaust systems have not been formally re-inspected since. Buyers should prioritise an independent inspection to verify current condition, particularly given the vehicle’s age and mileage. The recorded mileage progression—averaging approximately 6,793 miles annually—falls within typical expectations for a vehicle of this age, though the gaps between tests reveal little about intermediate maintenance. The most notable interval is between the 2022 and 2023 tests, where the vehicle accumulated 17,054 miles in just over a year, a rate that could indicate either consistent use or deferred servicing. There are no advisories or failures to suggest aggressive driving or neglect, but the lack of service records means critical intervals for fluid changes, timing belts, or suspension components may have been overlooked. Given the vehicle’s age and mileage, a buyer should focus on high-wear areas not covered by the MOT. The suspension—particularly rear bushes, coil springs, and shock absorbers—will require close inspection for deterioration, as will the brake system, including rear calipers for binding and front discs for uneven wear. Corrosion is a significant risk; the subframe, sills, and wheel arches should be examined for structural compromise, especially around welds and fastenings. The exhaust system’s integrity should also be checked, as leaks or rusted sections could affect emissions and roadworthiness. Tyre condition, while not flagged in past tests, warrants verification, as tread depth and lateral wear patterns will dictate remaining safe life.
