2015 BMW R 1200 1.2L Petrol · AY15 AEJ

This BMW R 1200 demonstrates a stable roadworthiness trend over the past two years, with the most recent MOT on 26 July 2024 confirming no defects at 65,670 miles. The absence of advisories or failings across three consecutive tests—including the latest—suggests the vehicle has not experienced recurring mechanical issues that would warrant immediate concern. However, the 18-month gap between the 2024 and 2022 tests raises questions about whether intermediate servicing was conducted, particularly given the bike’s age and the critical nature of components like suspension bushes, hydraulic brake lines, and chain tensioning systems on high-mileage motorcycles. The recorded mileage pattern is unusually low for a vehicle of this age, with just 153 miles logged between the January 2022 and November 2022 tests, followed by another 153 miles in the subsequent six months. This suggests prolonged periods of inactivity, which could accelerate wear on consumables like tyres, battery health, and fuel system integrity. The lack of mileage accumulation also implies the previous owner may not have used the bike regularly, potentially masking underlying issues that would normally surface under consistent riding conditions. Given the sparse MOT history, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of suspension components—particularly rear shock absorbers and steering head bearings—given the bike’s age and the potential for static corrosion or dry-rotting seals. The hydraulic brake system, including caliper binding and disc thickness, warrants scrutiny, as does the chain and sprocket condition, which may have degraded despite low mileage due to neglect. Structural integrity checks, including frame welds and underseating corrosion, are essential, especially if the bike has spent extended periods stored without protection. The battery and fuel system should also be tested, as prolonged inactivity can lead to failed cells or clogged injectors.
