2021 Volkswagen Sharan 1.4L Petrol · BD21 YOG

The 2021 Volkswagen Sharan presents a stable and improving maintenance trend, culminating in a fully clean pass on 2 June 2026 at 32,840 miles with zero defects recorded. That most recent result is significant. It shows the vehicle has moved beyond a recurring tyre wear issue that appeared in the two prior tests, suggesting the offside rear tyre and its underlying cause have been properly addressed rather than repeatedly patched. The mileage accumulation is consistent and unremarkable for a five-year-old MPV. Between 21 May 2025 at 24,200 miles and 2 June 2026 at 32,840 miles, the Sharan covered 8,640 miles in just over twelve months, which is a step up from the earlier pattern of roughly 5,200 miles per year between mid-2024 and mid-2025. That acceleration could indicate a change of owner or usage pattern. No large gaps appear in the record, and the annual test cycle has been maintained without interruption, which is a positive indicator of continuous upkeep rather than long periods of neglect. The recurring advisory for offside rear tyre wear on both the 2021 and 2024 tests at 19,006 and 24,200 miles respectively points to a misalignment or suspension geometry issue concentrated on that corner. Wear on the edge of the tyre, rather than evenly across the tread, is a classic symptom of incorrect toe or camber settings, or possibly a worn suspension bush or tracking arm. The fact that no such advisory appeared in the June 2026 test suggests the geometry was corrected, but a buyer should still inspect the offside rear suspension components, including the trailing arm bushes, shock absorber, and any recent replacement parts, to confirm the repair was thorough and not merely cosmetic. Beyond the tyre history, the clean 2026 result provides reasonable confidence in the braking system, exhaust emissions, and structural integrity at present. However, a pre-purchase inspection should still cover the underside for corrosion, particularly around the rear subframe and suspension mounting points common on the Sharan platform, and verify that all four brake discs and pads are wearing evenly given the vehicle has now entered a mileage range where these consumables begin to require closer attention.
