2016 Citroen Berlingo 1.6L Diesel · CC65 DOG

The most recent DVSA MOT test for this 2016 Citroen Berlingo, conducted on 6 January 2026, resulted in a pass with no defects or advisories recorded, indicating that the vehicle met the minimum statutory roadworthiness requirements at the time of inspection. It is worth noting, however, that a fail was also recorded on the same date immediately preceding the pass, which suggests a rectification was carried out and the vehicle was resubmitted for retest on the same day. Despite this anomaly in the documentation, the longer term pattern shows a pass on 9 January 2025 and 9 January 2024, both again with no defects recorded, which overall points towards a stable maintenance profile. The absence of any advisory items across the last three test cycles is a positive indicator, although it should be borne in mind that advisories are only recorded when defects fall short of failure criteria, and a clean sheet does not necessarily equate to a vehicle in perfect mechanical condition. With 91,224 miles recorded on a vehicle now ten years old, the Berlingo has covered approximately 9,100 miles per year on average, which is broadly typical for a light commercial derivative or family multi-purpose vehicle of this vintage. There are no glaring anomalies such as significant mileage gaps that might suggest prolonged periods off the road, nor any rapid accumulation that would indicate unusually high wear. At this mileage, consumable items such as brake pads, brake discs, tyres, the clutch, and various suspension components may be approaching or have already undergone replacement, and the timing belt or cam belt replacement interval should be verified against Citroen service schedules, as this is a critical maintenance item on vehicles of this age. Equally, the modest annual mileage suggests the vehicle has been in regular use, which generally benefits mechanical seals, gaskets, and the battery, reducing the likelihood of some of the issues associated with long-term standing. In the absence of any recorded advisories or recurring defects in the MOT history, physical inspection becomes particularly important to assess the true condition of a vehicle approaching a decade of service. The tyres should be examined closely not only for tread depth but also for sidewall perishing and cracking, which is common on tyres fitted to vehicles that have spent considerable time parked in exposed conditions, regardless of remaining tread. Brake discs should be inspected for lipping, corrosion around the outer edges, and any signs of binding calipers, which can cause uneven pad wear and pulling under braking. The underside of the vehicle, including suspension arms, bushes, and the exhaust system, should be checked for corrosion, oil leaks, and perished rubber components, as age-related degradation of these parts may not yet have manifested as an MOT failure. Attention should also be directed towards the 12 volt battery, which on a ten year old vehicle may be approaching the end of its service life, particularly if it has experienced repeated short journeys or periods of inactivity. Fluid condition and service history warrant verification, as brake fluid is hygroscopic and should be renewed typically every two years regardless of mileage, while coolant and automatic transmission fluid if applicable degrade with calendar age. A test drive should be undertaken to listen for any suspension knocks or clonks over uneven surfaces, which can indicate worn bushes, worn anti-roll bar links, or tired coil springs, and to confirm that the clutch operates smoothly without slip or judder. Finally, confirmation of a full service history with supporting invoices and verification of the cam belt replacement record would provide significant reassurance when considering this Berlingo for purchase.
