2006 Volkswagen Beetle 1.9L Diesel · CU06 WHL

The 2006 Volkswagen Beetle presents a stable and currently sound mechanical condition, culminating in a clean pass on 20 February 2026 at 115,898 miles with zero defects. The maintenance trend shows a distinct improvement, moving from a period of unexplained failures to consecutive passes. Despite two failures in the historical record, the absence of recorded defects on those occasions suggests administrative or procedural issues rather than chronic mechanical faults. The vehicle now demonstrates a clean bill of health, indicating the current owner has maintained it to a roadworthy standard. The mileage accumulation aligns with the vehicle's age, averaging roughly 5,795 miles per year, which reflects light, sporadic use. Between the September 2022 pass at 103,560 miles and the December 2023 failure at 108,459 miles, the odometer advanced by just under 5,000 miles over fifteen months. Usage remained minimal through the May 2025 test at 108,576 miles, covering a mere 117 miles in the preceding fifteen months. However, the recent jump to 115,898 miles by February 2026 indicates a shift toward more regular driving, adding over 7,000 miles in nine months. The slight mileage discrepancy between the September 2022 failure at 103,589 miles and the subsequent pass at 103,560 miles is a minor record anomaly but does not indicate rollback given the overall upward trajectory. With no recurring mechanical faults or advisories recorded in the MOT history, the primary concern shifts to the inherent risks of a low-mileage, twenty-year-old vehicle rather than documented component failures. A buyer must inspect for corrosion on the underbody, sills, and suspension mounts, as vehicles standing for long periods often suffer from surface rust and seized components. The braking system requires close scrutiny; infrequent use can lead to binding calipers and pitted brake discs, even if the recent test passed cleanly. Suspension bushes and coil springs may have perished from age rather than mileage, necessitating a thorough check for cracking and sagging. Tyres must be examined for sidewall cracking and date codes, as older rubber degrades regardless of tread depth.
