2012 Volkswagen Polo 1.4L Petrol · CX12 XRE

The Volkswagen Polo presents a current roadworthy status following a pass on 3 December 2025 at 138,877 miles, yet the maintenance trend shows a worrying pattern of last-minute rectification rather than stable upkeep. In the days preceding that pass, the vehicle failed twice with no defects recorded: on 2 December 2025 at 138,867 miles and on 15 November 2025 at 138,842 miles. The same fail-without-defect sequence occurred exactly one year earlier, with a failure on 1 November 2024 at 112,361 miles followed by a pass later that same day at 112,362 miles. This recurring administrative failure pattern suggests the keeper presented the car for test before resolving paperwork or minor non-mechanical matters, not that the chassis or drivetrain degraded and recovered within hours. Mileage accumulation is broadly typical for a 2012 car, rising from 112,362 miles at the November 2024 test to 138,877 miles by December 2025, an addition of 26,515 miles in thirteen months or about 20,400 miles per year, nearly double the lifetime average of 9,920. The spike indicates heavier recent use than earlier years. No intermediate tests appear between November 2024 and November 2025, so wear over that 26,000-mile span went unchecked by DVSA until the late-2025 retests. Because the official record lists no advisories or defects across any entry, the buyer cannot rely on the MOT to expose suspension bushes, coil springs, brake disc wear, or corrosion. The repeated no-defect failures point to either tester error or undocumented pre-test preparation. A physical inspection should still scrutinise structural integrity at sills and suspension mounts, measure brake caliper freedom and disc thickness, and confirm exhaust emissions against age-related tolerances. Given the clean documented sheet but erratic test behaviour, treat the Polo as mechanically unknown until a independent garage checks it. The high recent mileage demands fresh assessment of consumables and drivetrain condition beyond the MOT scope.
