1987 Yamaha FZR1000 1.0L Petrol · D510 CBY

The current roadworthiness status of this Yamaha FZR1000 is technically indeterminate due to the absence of a valid MOT certificate for the last four years. The last recorded test occurred on 10 June 2022 at 36,264 miles, where the machine passed without any defects. While the history shows a clean record in recent years, the lack of testing since mid-2022 means the current condition of critical components remains unknown. The maintenance trend appears stable based on the final inspection, but the significant period of inactivity creates a high probability of latent mechanical issues. The recorded mileage of 36,264 over thirty-nine years indicates an average of approximately 930 miles per annum, which is exceptionally low for a motorcycle of this era. The data reveals long periods of dormancy, specifically between 2014 and 2016, and again from 2016 to 2020, where the bike covered very little ground. This pattern of infrequent use suggests the machine has spent substantial time in storage. Low-mileage vintage motorcycles often suffer from fuel system degradation, perished rubber seals, and internal corrosion within the engine and fuel tank, rather than the mechanical wear associated with high-mileage examples. A prospective buyer must prioritise a thorough inspection of the fuel system, as stale petrol can cause significant damage to the carburettors and tank lining during long storage. The braking system requires careful scrutiny, particularly the master cylinders and calliper pistons, which likely seized or developed leaks during the four-year gap in testing. Examine all rubber components, including fork seals, coolant hoses, and tyres, for signs of dry rot or cracking. Given the age and the extended period off the road, verify the structural integrity of the frame and swingarm for hidden corrosion that may not have been captured during the previous MOT cycles.
