2012 Volkswagen Touran 1.6L Diesel · DF12 UJB

The most recent official DVSA MOT test outcome for this 2012 Volkswagen Touran is a PASS recorded on 31 July 2025, with no advisories or defects noted against the vehicle. It is worth highlighting that an earlier entry on the same date shows a FAILED test, again with no specific defects recorded in the data provided, which suggests the failure may have related to an administrative or registration irregularity rather than a mechanical or structural issue, or that the failure was rectified and immediately re-tested to the recorded pass. Across the available five-year MOT history, the vehicle has consistently passed annual tests from 2022 through 2025 with no recorded advisories, indicating a stable and well-maintained maintenance trend with no accumulating wear items flagged by the examiner. The absence of recurring advisories over consecutive tests is a positive indicator, suggesting that components such as suspension bushes, brake lines, exhaust mounting, and structural corrosion areas have remained within test thresholds throughout this period. The recorded mileage of 127,394 miles on a fourteen-year-old vehicle equates to an average annual mileage of approximately 9,100 miles, which is broadly typical for a family MPV of this age and consistent with moderate private or commuter use. The MOT records do not contain incremental mileage readings, making it difficult to confirm whether the vehicle has been used consistently year on year or has experienced periods of standing followed by more intensive use. At this overall mileage, mechanical wear should be expected on consumable items including brake discs and pads, clutch friction material if fitted with a manual gearbox, and the dual-mass flywheel where applicable, as well as suspension components such as coil springs, shock absorbers, and wishbone bushes. The annual mileage being moderate rather than exceptionally high is favourable for long-term drivetrain longevity, though it does not eliminate the possibility of time-related degradation of rubber, plastic, and fluid-based systems. Given the clean MOT history and absence of recorded advisories, a prospective buyer should place greater emphasis on age- and time-related deterioration rather than relying solely on the official test record. Tyres should be carefully inspected for sidewall perishing and cracking, which can occur well before the tread depth reaches the legal minimum, particularly on a vehicle of this age; check the production date codes on the sidewalls and bear in mind that tyres older than six years may require replacement regardless of remaining tread. The 12V battery should be tested for cranking performance, as batteries on vehicles of this vintage frequently fail without warning, and look for signs of voltage drop during starting. Brake discs, even if not flagged for excessive wear, may exhibit surface corrosion or lipping from typical use, so the discs should be inspected for smooth operation and the calipers checked for any binding or seized pistons, particularly given the seven-year gap between the first and last recorded MOT entry where binding could have developed during periods of lighter use. Given that the vehicle is now fourteen years old regardless of its mileage, a thorough pre-purchase inspection should verify that all time-based servicing has been completed to schedule. Coolant, brake fluid, and automatic transmission fluid if fitted degrade by calendar age rather than mileage alone and should be checked for evidence of recent renewal, ideally supported by service book stamps or invoices. The timing belt or chain service interval on this generation of Volkswagen should be confirmed as having been carried out, as failure of this component can result in catastrophic engine damage. On a test drive, listen for any suspension clonks or knocks over uneven surfaces, which would indicate worn anti-roll bar drop links, top mounts, or wishbone bushes; observe whether the steering pulls to either side under braking, which may indicate a sticking brake caliper; and monitor the engine management light and exhaust emissions, as age-related degradation of sensors, ignition coils, or the diesel particulate filter where applicable can cause test failures. A final under-bonnet and under-vehicle examination for fluid leaks from the engine, power steering, and cooling system is recommended, as is a check for any corrosion on the underside structural components and exhaust mounting, even where such issues have not yet reached the threshold for an advisory entry on the MOT record.
