2009 Volkswagen Caddy 2.0L Diesel · DX09 RCF

The vehicle most recently passed its MOT on 15 January 2026. While the overall maintenance trend appears stable in terms of achieving passes, there is a clear pattern of recurring advisories that suggests a reactive rather than proactive approach to maintenance. Specifically, the rear anti-roll bar components have been flagged consistently over several years, indicating that these wear items are being monitored but not replaced, which is a common trend in older utility vehicles. With a recorded mileage of 137,987 miles over a seventeen year period, the vehicle has averaged approximately 8,117 miles per annum. This represents a typical usage profile for a Volkswagen Caddy, suggesting the engine and drivetrain have been subjected to moderate, consistent wear rather than extreme heavy-duty use or prolonged periods of standing. At this mileage, a buyer should expect standard wear on all major consumables and a gradual degradation of rubber components throughout the chassis and suspension systems. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the suspension and chassis during a test drive. The persistent advisories regarding the rear anti-roll bar pin and bushes, combined with previous notes on reduced damping in the front shock absorbers, suggest the suspension is nearing the end of its service life. Listen for knocks, clunks, or rattling sounds when traversing uneven road surfaces and observe if the vehicle exhibits excessive pitching or bouncing. Additionally, the 2022 advisory regarding a defective gearbox mounting should be verified; feel for unusual vibrations through the gear lever or a distinct thud during gear changes and acceleration, as a worn mount can increase stress on the drivetrain. Immediate maintenance will be required for the braking system, as the latest inspection confirms the rear brake pads are wearing thin. During the test drive, check for any brake shudder or a lack of firm pedal response. Furthermore, the mention of a new dashboard being fitted in the most recent test warrants a physical inspection to ensure the installation is secure and that all instrumentation and ventilation controls are functioning correctly. Finally, given the vehicle's age and mileage, verify the service history for timing belt and water pump replacements, as these are critical calendar and mileage-based items that, if neglected, pose a significant risk to engine integrity.
