1989 Vauxhall Cavalier 1.6L Petrol · F957 ABD

The vehicle presents a stable roadworthiness profile with a clean record over the last three annual tests. Following a failure in September 2019, the Cavalier passed three consecutive inspections without any recorded defects. The most recent test in November 2022 at 79,169 miles indicates that the mechanical and structural issues previously identified were addressed and the vehicle has maintained a high standard of compliance for several years. The mileage pattern is exceptionally low for a 37-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 2,140 miles per year. The data shows a significant plateau in usage between November 2021 and November 2022, where the odometer recorded only 62 miles of travel from 79,107 to 79,169. While this low mileage suggests minimal wear on the drivetrain and engine internal components, it also increases the risk of rubber-based parts degrading or brake components seizing due to long periods of stasis. A buyer should focus their physical inspection on the areas previously flagged by the tester to ensure the repairs were thorough. Specifically, the 2019 failure noted a worn nearside front suspension arm bush and a corroded nearside rear brake pipe. Although these passed in subsequent tests, the age of the vehicle makes it prone to hidden corrosion on the brake lines and cracking in the rubber bushings and seals. Given the low usage, a thorough check of the chassis for structural rust and the brake caliper operation is essential, as stationary vehicles often suffer from surface oxidation that frequently driven cars avoid.
