2009 Alfa Romeo Mito Veloce T 1.4L Petrol · FFZ 6211

A single failure recorded in April 2024 breaks an otherwise continuous run of clean passes for this 2009 Alfa Romeo MiTo Veloce T, although the absence of any defect details against that failure is unusual and limits what can be drawn from the result itself. With passes noted in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022, the vehicle demonstrated consistent roadworthiness across roughly six years of testing, and the most recent outcome in 2024 does not by itself establish a declining trend. However, because no advisory or failure reason was captured against the 2024 test, the underlying mechanical issue that caused the fail cannot be identified from the DVSA record. Any prospective buyer should therefore treat that entry as an unresolved question and seek to confirm independently what rectification work was carried out before the next annual test, as Alfa Romeo MiTo TBi and TwinAir variants are known to have recurring issues with engine management sensors, turbo and induction pipework, coil packs and lambda probes that frequently produce emissions or MIL-related failures. Recorded mileage of 67,845 miles across seventeen years equates to an average accumulation of roughly 3,990 miles per year, which is well below the typical figure for a car of this age. The MOT history reflects this low usage through long intervals between tests, with a three-year gap between the 2019 and 2021 entries, and another eighteen months between 2021 and the 2022 pass. Such extended periods of light use or standing tend to promote corrosion of underbody components, brake disc pitting or surface corrosion from infrequent braking, deterioration of rubber bushes and engine mount rubber, and moisture accumulation in fluids and the air-conditioning evaporator. Given the MiTo's reputation for water ingestion through the air intake when wading through deep standing water, and for coolant leaks from the thermostat housing and radiator on higher-output petrol variants, the long gaps and low annual mileage warrant close physical inspection rather than reassurance from the mileage figure alone. Buyers should focus a pre-purchase inspection on the components most likely to suffer from low-mileage corrosion and age-related wear rather than on mileage-driven wear. At the front, examine the suspension wishbones, anti-roll bar drop links and front subframe mounting points for any surface corrosion or flaking paint around bolt heads, and check the top mounts for splitting. At the rear, inspect the axle beam bushes and trailing arm bushes for cracking, as these are prone to deterioration on MiTos of this era. On a test drive, listen for clonks or knocks from the front over speed humps and uneven surfaces, which would indicate worn drop links or bushes, and pay attention to any vague or wandering steering feel that could suggest tired tie rod ends. Brake pedal feel should be firm without excessive travel, and the car should pull up cleanly without judder, as discs corroded from low use will produce a pulsing sensation under heavy braking even when the friction material has life remaining. The Veloce T specification uses the 1.4-litre MultiAir turbocharged petrol engine, which is particularly sensitive to oil condition and to leaks from the cam cover gasket and oil filter housing. A thorough inspection should include checking for oil residue around the top of the engine and on the underside of the bonnet insulation, and for any signs of coolant staining around the thermostat housing, water pump and the plastic coolant rail at the rear of the engine bay. Listen at idle for a regular ticking or rattle from the timing chain area, which can indicate stretched chain guides or tensioner wear on higher-mileage units, and ensure the engine restarts cleanly when warm, as MiAir solenoid faults and crank sensor degradation are well documented. Turbocharged petrol Alfa Romeo units are also known to suffer from failing O2 sensors and clogged particulate filters on later examples, any of which could plausibly explain an emissions-related failure. A handheld diagnostic scan for stored fault codes, an underbody inspection on a ramp for corrosion to the rear axle beam and exhaust hangers, and confirmation of any rectification work following the April 2024 failure should form the core of any serious evaluation of this particular car.
