2006 Toyota Avensis 2.0L Diesel · FG56 ODF

The 2006 Toyota Avensis presents a stable and reassuring mechanical history, achieving a clean pass with no defects recorded in its most recent MOT on 29 August 2023 at 116,397 miles. This flawless outcome mirrors the preceding tests, indicating a consistent maintenance trend without any emerging mechanical or structural failures. The absence of advisories or failures across the recorded history suggests the vehicle has been kept in sound running order, free from the typical corrosion or suspension deterioration often seen in vehicles of this age. The recorded mileage pattern confirms exceptionally light use for a twenty-year-old vehicle, averaging roughly 5,820 miles annually. Between the September 2021 test at 111,706 miles and the October 2022 test at 112,983 miles, the car covered just 1,277 miles over a twelve-month period. Usage increased slightly over the following ten months, accumulating 3,414 miles before the August 2023 test. Such low annual mileage often points to short, localized journeys, which can prevent the powertrain from reaching optimal operating temperatures, though the clean MOT record suggests any associated moisture or condensation issues have not yet manifested into mechanical faults. Despite the pristine MOT record, a physical inspection remains essential to verify the condition of age-related components not always captured during a standard test. A buyer should closely examine the structural integrity of the underbody and suspension mounts for corrosion, as standing or short-trip use can accelerate moisture retention and rust formation. Suspension bushes, coil springs, and brake calipers require scrutiny for perishing or binding, while the tyre manufacture dates must be checked to ensure the rubber has not hardened or cracked from age rather than tread wear. The exhaust system and fuel lines also warrant a thorough visual check for any signs of corrosion that might not have triggered a failure at the last test.
