2005 Citroen Xsara 1.6L Petrol · FM05 OSR

The 2005 Citroen Xsara presents a mixed roadworthiness profile, with no defects recorded during its most recent MOT on 2022-09-23 at 86,194 miles. However, the vehicle failed two consecutive tests in 2021-09-10 and 2021-09-09 at the same mileage, with no specific issues logged. This pattern suggests potential inconsistencies in testing outcomes or unrecorded minor faults. The lack of defects in the latest test implies a stable condition, but the prior failures raise questions about the vehicle’s compliance history. The three-year gap since the last MOT, as of 2026-07-08, means critical components may have deteriorated without formal assessment. The vehicle’s mileage of 86,194 miles over 21 years equates to approximately 4,104 miles annually, significantly below average for its age. This low usage could indicate infrequent operation or prolonged storage, both of which risk mechanical inactivity-related issues such as corrosion, seized joints, or degraded rubber components. The 2021-09-10 pass at 81,992 miles followed by a failure the next day at the same mileage suggests either a rushed retest or unrecorded minor faults. The absence of defects in subsequent tests does not confirm long-term reliability, as the vehicle has not been inspected since 2022. A buyer should prioritise inspecting the suspension system for worn bushes or coil springs, which may have deteriorated due to low mileage and potential inactivity. Brake components, including calipers and discs, should be checked for binding or uneven wear, as repeated MOT failures without recorded defects may hint at unresolved issues. Structural integrity, particularly around the chassis and body seams, is critical given the age, as corrosion could have developed during periods of inactivity. The lack of emissions data in recent tests also warrants scrutiny, as exhaust systems may require assessment for leaks or inefficiency.
