The Agila's tall body and light front end load these bushes hard in town, over speed cushions and potholes, so wear shows up as a knock, a vague steering feel and uneven tyre wear well before the car needs anything more expensive.

BreakerYard's Agila guide warns that water corrodes the brake master cylinder over time, which then leaks fluid, and GetCarWise's Agila fault data pairs that with corroded brake hose ferrules and pipe damage as a tracked MOT failure area, with typical repairs in the £150-£450 range depending on how many components let go. On a small car that spends its life in wet town driving, salt-laden water collects around the cylinder and pipe clips, so the first sign is often a low reservoir level or a soft pedal rather than an obvious puddle.

Because the Agila A was engineered primarily for dense urban commuting and school-run duty, its manual clutch assembly endures heavy stop-start wear. The friction plate and release bearing are compact and wear prematurely, frequently slipping or shuddering violently before 50,000 miles. Worn clutch fingers can cause the pedal to feel spongy or stick down to the floor mat, preventing clean gear engagement. In neglected cars, driving on a slipping clutch can score the flywheel, substantially increasing repair bills. A full 3-piece clutch kit replacement is required.

The twin gear selector cables linking the cabin shifter to the transmission casing on the Agila A suffer from internal lining degradation and moisture penetration. Over time, road dirt and rust cause the inner cables to bind inside the outer sleeves, making the gearstick exceptionally tight and difficult to move across the gate. If left unaddressed, the cable ends can stretch or snap, leaving the driver stranded in gear or unable to engage reverse. Lubrication provides only temporary relief; renewing the shift selector cable assembly is necessary.

The Agila A uses a column-mounted electric power steering (EPS) motor with integrated torque and angle sensors. Due to high electrical current draw and heat cycling in tight low-speed manoeuvring, the internal motor relays or optical torque sensors fail. This leads to sudden loss of power steering assistance, causing the steering wheel to become extremely heavy and difficult to turn, often accompanied by an EPS warning light on the dashboard. In many cases assistance returns after cycling the ignition, before failing permanently. Specialist refurbished steering columns are the standard, cost-effective fix.
