2008 Volkswagen Transporter 2.5L Diesel · K4 YBM

This Volkswagen Transporter has maintained a consistent roadworthiness record over the past four MOT cycles, with no defects or advisories recorded in any of the tests conducted between June 2022 and May 2025. The most recent inspection in May 2025—just over a year ago—confirmed the vehicle passed without fail, suggesting the current owner has adhered to basic maintenance requirements. However, the absence of advisories or defects does not preclude underlying issues that may not have been detected during standard MOT testing, particularly in areas like suspension wear, brake component degradation, or structural corrosion, which often require closer inspection beyond the MOT’s scope. The recorded mileage of 100,155 miles over an 18-year span equates to approximately 5,564 miles annually, a figure significantly lower than average for a vehicle of this age. The intervals between tests—roughly 12,000 to 13,000 miles—were consistent, with no prolonged gaps or sudden spikes in mileage that might indicate neglect or heavy usage. While low mileage can imply lighter wear on high-usage components like brakes and tyres, it also raises questions about whether the vehicle has been stored for extended periods, potentially accelerating issues like battery degradation, fluid deterioration, or suspension component drying out. Given the lack of recorded faults, a buyer should prioritise an in-person inspection focusing on suspension integrity, particularly the condition of coil springs, bushes, and shock absorbers, as these are prone to fatigue over 18 years. Brake components—including discs, pads, and calipers—should be examined for uneven wear or binding, especially if the vehicle has experienced periods of inactivity. Structural corrosion, particularly around wheel arches, sills, and the subframe, warrants scrutiny, as prolonged storage can exacerbate rust progression. Additionally, the battery, hoses, and fluid levels (coolant, brake, power steering) should be checked, as low mileage may mean these have not been regularly serviced. The absence of MOT advisories does not guarantee these areas are sound.
