2009 Volkswagen FOX 1.2L Petrol · LR59 RTX

The latest MOT test for the 2009 Volkswagen Fox shows a clean pass with no recorded defects, indicating a solid maintenance record over the past year. The vehicle has been inspected regularly, with no significant issues reported, which suggests a stable maintenance trend. However, the recorded mileage of 81,860 miles is relatively low for a car of its age, standing at approximately 4,815 miles per year. This usage rate is reasonable but warrants attention, as it may point to infrequent driving or periods of inactivity, which can affect components like the suspension, brakes, and drivetrain. When evaluating the mileage in context, it's important to consider the vehicle's age and the expected wear patterns. At 17 years old, the Fox should still perform well, but the low annual mileage could mean that certain parts are experiencing less stress. Still, the absence of defects in the recent MOT history is encouraging, though it does not guarantee long-term reliability without proper upkeep. The buyer should be vigilant about monitoring wear indicators such as brake pad thickness, suspension bushings, and tyre condition. For a buyer, the practical advice hinges on the age and usage profile. Inspect the tyres for any signs of perishing or uneven wear, which can indicate alignment issues or excessive load. Check the brake discs for any corrosion or binding, as these can affect stopping performance. The 12V battery should be tested for health, and the service book stamps should be verified to ensure timely maintenance. Fluid levels and condition are also critical—especially coolant, brake fluid, and power steering fluid. Given the clean MOT record, the focus should remain on proactive inspections rather than major repairs, but a thorough pre-purchase check is essential to catch any emerging problems. Overall, while the vehicle appears to have a solid maintenance history, the low mileage warrants careful attention to wear progression and component integrity. A well-executed inspection before purchase will help identify any latent issues and ensure the car remains roadworthy throughout its service life.
