2002 Honda Accord 2.0L Petrol · M17 PAU

The vehicle currently sits on a failed MOT from 31 October 2025 at 100,579 miles, so it is not roadworthy until it passes a fresh test. No defects are recorded against that failure or any other entry in the supplied history, which makes a definitive trend assessment difficult. That said, the available record shows an improving short-term pattern: both the November 2024 test and the December 2022 test were failed and then passed within days at nearly identical mileages. That suggests minor rectified faults rather than a deepening mechanical problem, although the October 2025 failure now carries no corresponding pass, leaving the car in an unresolved state. The recorded mileage is low for the car's age. With 100,579 miles over roughly 24 years, the average is around 4,200 miles per year, but the actual usage is far lighter. Between the December 2022 pass at 94,044 miles and the October 2025 failure at 100,579 miles, the car covered only about 6,535 miles in roughly 34 months, which is under 2,300 miles per year. This pattern indicates short, infrequent use or periods of standing, which can allow brake discs to corrode, tyres to develop flat spots, and suspension bushes to deteriorate from lack of regular movement. There are no sudden high-mileage spikes in the record. Because the failure data is blank, the buyer must verify the usual age-related weak points in person. A 2002 Honda Accord of this mileage is prone to rust on subframes, sills, and suspension mounting points, so check for structural corrosion and any fresh underseal that could hide welding. Ask the seller for the full DVSA defect list from the October 2025 failure, including any non-observations, and confirm that the retest has been completed. Brake discs, pads, and callipers deserve a close look given the low annual mileage, as binding rear brakes and scored discs are common on cars that sit for long stretches. Tyre condition and sidewall cracking also merit attention, along with any exhaust emissions warnings that might appear once the car is properly warmed through. The clean pass results in 2024 and 2022 indicate the car was being maintained to a basic standard at those points. Twice failing an initial test before a quick pass is a normal retest pattern and shows a previous owner who dealt with identified issues. The unrecorded October 2025 failure is the one open question. If the seller cannot produce the full defect sheet, treat the car with caution and factor a pre-purchase inspection into any offer. Do not rely on the absence of advisories as proof of soundness; with this age and mileage, the structural condition dictates the car's true value.
