2014 Ford Mondeo 2.0L Diesel · MA14 AAU

The most recent MOT test conducted on 9 February 2026 resulted in a pass with no recorded defects. A review of the official DVSA history from 2022 through to 2026 reveals a highly stable maintenance trend, characterised by consistent passes and a complete absence of failures or advisories. This suggests that the vehicle has been kept in a good state of repair and has not been subject to the mechanical fatigue or structural degradation typically associated with heavy-duty usage. The recorded mileage of 61,570 miles for a twelve-year-old vehicle represents a very low annual average of approximately 5,131 miles. While this indicates minimal wear on the engine, transmission, and major drivetrain components, it also highlights the potential risks associated with infrequent use. Vehicles that cover low annual distances are often prone to issues stemming from long periods of standing, which can affect various rubber, fluid, and electrical components in ways that a standard MOT test may not always fully highlight. During your physical inspection and test drive, you should focus on age-related degradation rather than wear-based components. Closely examine the tyres for any signs of perishing, such as sidewall cracking or a hardened tread surface, as rubber loses its elasticity over time regardless of tread depth. Check the brake discs for excessive corrosion or pitting and listen for any signs of binding calipers or uneven braking, which can occur if the vehicle has been stationary for long periods. You should also inspect the suspension bushes and various rubber seals for signs of cracking or perishing, as these can cause noise or handling issues even at low mileage. It is also essential to verify that time-based servicing has been performed alongside mileage-based intervals. Confirm that the engine oil and filters have been changed regularly to prevent sludge accumulation, and check the age of the coolant and brake fluids, as these degrade chemically over time. Given the vehicle's age, you must confirm whether the timing belt or chain has been replaced according to the manufacturer's time-based schedule to avoid catastrophic engine failure. Finally, test the 12V battery health and ensure the vehicle starts promptly, as low-use cars are frequently subject to battery discharge and capacity loss.
