2012 Land Rover Freelander 2.2L Diesel · OV12 NCE

The most recent MOT, conducted on 23 January 2026, was passed with no recorded defects, and this outcome mirrors the previous five‑year sequence of clean passes dating back to February 2022. The consistency of fault‑free results suggests that the vehicle has been maintained to a standard that satisfies the statutory safety and emissions criteria, with no evident deterioration in the core systems inspected by the DVSA. In the absence of any advisory notes, the maintenance trend can be described as stable rather than improving or worsening. At 104 289 miles on the odometer, the Freelander's average annual mileage works out to roughly 7 450 miles per year over its fourteen‑year life. This figure sits comfortably within the typical usage envelope for a light‑commercial vehicle of this vintage and does not indicate any periods of excessive short‑term mileage accumulation that might accelerate wear on drivetrain components. There are no obvious mileage gaps in the MOT record, implying the vehicle has not spent prolonged intervals idle, which reduces the risk of fuel‑system varnish or brake‑disc corrosion that can arise from extended storage. For a prospective buyer, the primary inspection focus should be on age‑related wear rather than defect remediation. Examine the tyre tread depth and sidewall condition; even with moderate mileage, tyres can deteriorate from calendar ageing, showing cracking, dry rot or bulging that compromises grip. Verify the 12‑volt battery’s charge holding capacity, as batteries over ten years often lose cranking power and may exhibit surface corrosion on the terminals. Inspect the under‑carriage and wheel arches for any signs of rust, especially around suspension mounting points and the chassis rails, as standing periods can encourage corrosion that may affect structural integrity. Additionally, assess the condition of the braking system and suspension components, which are critical on a vehicle that may have been used for mixed on‑road and light‑off‑road duties. Look for uneven tyre wear that could point to worn bushings, misaligned steering geometry or deteriorated coil springs. During a test drive, listen for any clunking or squeaking from the front and rear suspension, and note any brake pedal pulsation, judder or reduced pedal travel that might indicate disc surface rust, glazed pads or caliper binding. Finally, confirm that the service book reflects regular oil, filter and coolant changes at the manufacturer‑recommended intervals; time‑based fluid degradation can lead to reduced lubrication and overheating in an engine that has been lightly used but is now approaching fifteen years of service.
