2012 Land Rover Discovery 3.0L Diesel · OV12 WDM

The most recent MOT test conducted in April 2025 resulted in a clean pass with no defects or advisories recorded. Reviewing the consecutive annual results from 2022 through 2025, the vehicle demonstrates a highly stable maintenance trend. The absence of any recorded advisories regarding tyre wear, brake components, or lighting suggests that the previous owners have been proactive in addressing minor issues before they escalate into MOT failures, which is an encouraging indicator of the vehicle's overall mechanical upkeep. With a recorded mileage of 152,039 miles over a fourteen-year period, the vehicle has averaged approximately 10,860 miles per year. This usage pattern is consistent with typical UK driving habits for a large diesel SUV and suggests the vehicle has not been subjected to excessive high-speed motorway running or, conversely, the detrimental effects of prolonged periods of standing. While the high mileage necessitates a cautious approach toward the longevity of high-wear items such as the turbocharger, fuel injectors, and suspension geometry, the steady accumulation of miles generally points to a vehicle that has been regularly exercised, which is often preferable for maintaining seal integrity and preventing component seizure. As the MOT history is devoid of any documented faults, your inspection should focus on age-related degradation that may not yet have triggered a failure. Closely examine the tyres for signs of perishing or sidewall cracking, which can occur due to age even if the tread depth is adequate. During the test drive, pay particular attention to the braking system by checking for any shudder through the pedal, which indicates warped discs, or any pulling to one side, which may suggest binding calipers. You should also listen for any dull thuds or clunks when navigating uneven surfaces, as this could signal worn suspension bushes or fatigued coil springs that have not yet reached the threshold of an MOT advisory. Finally, verify the service history to ensure that time-based maintenance has been strictly adhered to, as fluids such as brake fluid, coolant, and engine oil degrade over time regardless of mileage. Check for any signs of weeping from the engine or gearbox seals and inspect the condition of rubber hoses and belts for any signs of cracking or brittleness. Given the vehicle's age, it is also prudent to test the 12V battery health and ensure the electrical systems, including all auxiliary functions, are operating without intermittent faults. A clean MOT is a positive sign, but at this mileage and age, a comprehensive physical assessment of all consumables and fluid integrity is essential.
