2016 Honda CR-V 1.6L Diesel · OW65 GKD

The 2016 Honda CR-V presents a stable and improving mechanical trend, culminating in a notably clean pass on 16 July 2025 at 71,484 miles with zero defects recorded. That clean sheet is significant. The previous test on 17 July 2024 at 53,958 miles had flagged all four tyres worn close to the legal limit or worn on edges, yet by the following July those tyres had clearly been replaced and no new advisories or failures appeared. This suggests the last owner addressed the tyre wear issue promptly rather than deferring it, which is a positive indicator of responsible upkeep. The mileage pattern tells a clear story of changing usage. Between 18 January 2022 at 28,186 miles and 32,564 miles on 19 January 2023, the vehicle covered roughly 4,378 miles in twelve months. Then from that January 2023 test to 35,399 miles on 18 July 2023, it added another 2,835 miles in just six months. The pace accelerated sharply after that. From 35,399 miles in July 2023 to 53,958 miles in July 2024, the CR-V covered 18,559 miles in a single year, and then from July 2024 to July 2025 it added 17,526 miles. That is a substantial jump from roughly 7,000 miles annually to over 17,000 miles per year, indicating a shift to sustained high-speed or long-distance driving. Such use places accelerated wear on brake discs and pads, suspension bushes, shock absorbers, and drivetrain components, even though the most recent MOT found no faults. The recurring theme across the record is tyre wear, specifically edge wear and cracking. The 2022 test flagged the offside front tyre worn on the inner edge and slightly cracked, along with the nearside rear tyre showing cracking or perishing. The 2024 test found all four tyres worn close to the legal limit or worn on edges. Inner edge wear on the front and general edge wear across all corners points toward suspension geometry issues, most likely worn suspension bushes or tracking misalignment, combined with ageing rubber. A prospective buyer should have the front and rear suspension inspected for worn bushes, tie rod ends, and ball joints, and should request a four-wheel alignment check. The tyre cracking noted in 2022 also raises the question of whether the vehicle spent extended periods stationary or exposed to UV degradation, so inspecting the date codes on the current set of tyres is worthwhile. Beyond the suspension and tyres, the clean 2025 result is reassuring but should not replace a physical inspection. With nearly 18,000 miles covered in the last twelve months alone, brake disc thickness, pad depth, exhaust condition, and structural rust around the subframes and sills all warrant close examination. The MOT record shows no emissions or structural advisories, which is encouraging, but a pre-purchase inspection covering underside corrosion, shock absorber operation, and steering component play remains essential given the step change in recent mileage accumulation.
