2012 Vauxhall Meriva 1.7L Diesel · OY12 EUW

Corrosion of the rear brake pipes and recurring tyre degradation are the primary mechanical concerns for this Vauxhall Meriva, as evidenced by the most recent MOT pass on 15 April 2026. The vehicle's history shows a persistent pattern of advisories relating to consumable components and fluid containment, with the latest inspection flagging both nearside and offside rear brake pipes as corroded and covered in grease or other material. This follows a trend of ongoing issues with suspension components, such as worn front suspension arm bushes noted in 2025, and a history of oil leaks and misting shock absorbers. While the vehicle has consistently passed its tests since 2021, the frequency of advisories regarding braking systems and tyres suggests a requirement for close monitoring of these specific areas. The recorded mileage of 98,936 miles over approximately 14 years indicates an average annual usage of roughly 7,067 miles. This represents a relatively low-to-moderate mileage profile for a vehicle of this age, which typically implies less frequent long-distance motorway driving and potentially more urban or short-trip usage. Mechanically, this level of accumulation suggests that while the drivetrain may have seen moderate wear, components such as suspension bushings, brake pipes, and rubber seals are more likely to be affected by age-related degradation and environmental exposure rather than high-frequency mechanical fatigue. A prospective buyer should pay particular attention to the braking system and the underside of the vehicle during a test drive. Given the advisories for corroded rear brake pipes and worn rear brake discs, it is essential to check for any changes in brake pedal feel, such as sponginess or a pulsing sensation, which could indicate air in the system or uneven disc surfaces. Furthermore, since the history includes reports of oil leaks and misting shock absorbers, the buyer should inspect the engine bay and the area around the suspension struts for active leaks or excessive residue. Any rhythmic knocking or clunking sounds when driving over uneven surfaces would be a direct indicator of the worn suspension arm bushes previously flagged in the 2025 record. Tyre condition and visibility components also require scrutiny. The record shows a recurring cycle of tyres being flagged for perishing, cracking, or being worn close to the legal limit, including a dangerous failure in 2022 for exposed cords. On a test drive, the vehicle should be checked for any pulling to one side, which could indicate uneven tyre wear or alignment issues resulting from the previously noted suspension wear. Additionally, the recent minor defect regarding a damaged windscreen should be inspected to ensure the structural integrity of the glass is not compromised and that there are no obstructions to the driver's field of vision.
