2011 Land Rover Freelander 2.2L Diesel · PE11 ACV

The most recent MOT test on 2024-05-17 confirms the vehicle passed without defects, though it follows an unusually tight testing cycle. The 2024-04-18 failure—just three weeks prior—was notable for recording no defects, which suggests either a procedural oversight or a temporary suspension of testing. The preceding clean passes in 2023 and 2022 indicate no recurring mechanical issues were formally logged, though the lack of defects does not preclude hidden wear. The overall trend appears stable in terms of MOT outcomes, but the abrupt failure before a clean pass warrants scrutiny of whether the vehicle was driven between tests or if there was an administrative anomaly. The mileage progression shows consistent usage, averaging around 9,281 miles annually—a typical rate for a vehicle of this age. Since the 2022 test at 119,559 miles, the vehicle accumulated roughly 19,663 miles in two years, with no extended periods of inactivity. The gap between the 2023 and 2024 tests (11,828 miles in 12 months) aligns with this pattern, suggesting regular driving rather than neglect. However, the 2024 failure followed by an immediate retest implies either a rushed inspection or a minor oversight that did not recur. Given the sparse defect history, the primary focus for an in-person inspection should centre on high-wear components that are not routinely MOT-tested. The suspension—particularly the coil springs, bushes, and track rods—will require close examination for excessive play or corrosion, especially given the vehicle’s age and typical off-road use. Brake systems, including rear calipers and discs, should be checked for uneven wear or binding, as the 2024 failure suggests potential brake-related concerns were overlooked. Structural integrity, particularly around wheel arches and sills, must be assessed for corrosion, which can compromise the chassis over time. Finally, the differential and transfer case should be inspected for leaks or unusual fluid discolouration, as these are critical for longevity in a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
