2012 Audi A3 1.6L Petrol · PJ12 LZM

Chronic corrosion of the rear structure and suspension components defines the mechanical history of this vehicle, though the most recent pass on 23 March 2026 recorded only a minor indicator issue. The record shows a pattern of deteriorating chassis integrity and suspension wear, including a failure for a fractured nearside front coil spring in 2021 and a failure in February 2025 due to severely deteriorated front outer drive shaft constant velocity boots. With a recorded mileage of 190,450 miles, this vehicle has averaged approximately 13,604 miles per year over its fourteen-year lifespan. This high annual accumulation indicates significant wear on the drivetrain, suspension linkages, and various consumables. The consistency of the MOT intervals suggests regular road use, but the mileage level increases the likelihood of fatigue in structural components and rubber seals. A physical inspection should prioritise the rear underside, as records from 2023, 2024, and 2025 consistently flag corrosion on the rear suspension arms, rear vehicle structure, and subframe mountings. During a test drive, listen for clicking sounds from the front wheels during tight turns, which would indicate that the previously flagged constant velocity boots have allowed lubricant to escape or contaminants to enter the joints. Attention should also be paid to the front suspension, specifically the arm pins and bushes flagged as worn in 2025. Listen for knocks or clunks when driving over speed bumps and feel for any vagueness or instability in the steering. Additionally, check the engine bay for evidence of the oil leak recorded in 2023 and monitor the brake pedal for any judder that might suggest the wear noted on the front brake discs in 2022 has progressed.
