2014 Volkswagen Transporter 2.0L Diesel · RK64 WFJ

This 2014 Volkswagen Transporter presents a stable and improving maintenance trend, culminating in a completely clean MOT pass on 22 May 2026 at 94,298 miles with zero defects recorded. That is a marked improvement over the 2021 test, where the tester flagged an inoperative offside rear registration plate lamp and cuts to both rear tyres. The subsequent three tests, spanning from July 2022 through May 2026, show no advisories or failures whatsoever, indicating the previous owner addressed those minor defects promptly and has maintained the vehicle to a consistently high standard since. The mileage accumulation tells a coherent story. Between July 2021 at 79,281 miles and May 2026 at 94,298 miles, the van covered roughly 15,017 miles across nearly five years, averaging around 3,000 miles per year during that window. That is lower than the long-term average of approximately 7,858 miles per year calculated over the vehicle's full twelve-year life, suggesting either a change in ownership pattern or a period of lighter use. The gap between the July 2024 test at 92,805 miles and the May 2026 test at 94,298 miles accounts for just 1,493 miles over nearly two years, reinforcing the impression of a vehicle that has been used sparingly in recent times. Despite the clean recent record, a buyer should still inspect the rear tyres carefully. The 2021 failure for cuts on both rear tyres suggests the van may have encountered road debris or been loaded unevenly, and replacement tyres should be checked for matching specification and adequate tread depth. The rear lamp circuit that failed in 2021 warrants a quick function check, as intermittent electrical faults on commercial vehicles can recur due to vibration and connector corrosion. Beyond those historical items, the focus should fall on structural integrity underneath the van. At twelve years old and over 94,000 miles, the chassis, outriggers, and cross-members should be inspected for corrosion, particularly around mounting points and wheel arches. Suspension components including front wishbone bushes, rear leaf spring shackles, and shock absorbers should be examined for wear, while the braking system merits a close look at disc thickness, pad condition, and any signs of binding calipers that could indicate deferred servicing on a vehicle that has recently been covering fewer miles annually.
